Many have been asking about maintenance on the rain barrels.
Recommend using the rain water or put in buckets (watering cans) so there is space to capture more rain when it comes.
I will work on putting together infomation on how to:
Clean out the diverters and connect the rain barrels for spring rains.
Disconnect the rain barrels and get ready for winter (Freezing Temperatures that can damage your rain barrels).
Clean out some of the debris (dirt, roof granules, etc) in the bottom of the rain barrels.
Preparing for Winter
Learn the essential steps to protect your rain barrel system this Winter! Please drain your rain barrels and safeguard your drip irrigation system. Don't let the frost catch you off guard - take the necessary precautions now to prevent costly damages later.
Losen the stainless steel clamps and disconnect the two black flexible pipes from the diverter.
Install the two caps on the diverter.
Make sure to put some heavy bricks on the rain barrels so the do not blow away or move them indoors.
Drain the rain barrels (either put in containers to water plants in doors or connect garden hose and water bushes and trees). You can put a cap full of bleach down the tub or each barrel when they are almost empty and let it sit for a day then finish draining the barrels.
Leave the quarter turn valve open and tilt the rain barrel back and forth to make sure they are empty.
Single Rain Barrel
Brown cutom built single rain barrel with one brown diverter.
